Connect Hackney has been running for nearly three years and in that time, 2,500 older people have participated in a range of projects and activities aimed at improving their wellbeing and designed to reduce or prevent their social isolation. Connect Hackney is a £5.8m programme funded by the Big Lottery’s Ageing Better, Fulfilling Lives fund which is aiming to establish learning and evidence to inform future policy and practice on interventions that are successful in reducing social isolation amongst older people.
Connect Hackney have learned a lot over the last few years and it’s another exciting time, as we approach the half way stage of this six year programme, with £1.3m to allocate to projects/activities over the next three years. Working with older people, reviewing research data and working with stakeholders has enabled us to update the programme plan and commissioning priorities for April 2018 onwards.
Improving the wellbeing of men and older people with learning disabilities Invitation to Tender
We are pleased to launch the start of our next round of commissioning, by inviting proposals for projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of men and older people with learning disabilities. Connect Hackney programme data shows that to date, we have had low levels of participation from people from these target groups, despite evidence showing that individuals from these groups are more likely to be at risk of social isolation. Information on the tender specification is available below.
We are inviting all prospective bidders to important pre-commissioning workshops – you can find more details here.
You can also find our FAQ for bidding organisations here.
We will also be releasing information over the next two months about further commissioning opportunities, including tenders for Community Connectors and Digital Inclusion, along with opportunities for Connect Hackney to support small locality based projects. For further information, please visit the Connect Hackney website or call the Connect Hackney team on 020 7923 8360.
Community Connector Invitation to Tender
Learning from Phase 1 of the Connect Hackney programme indicates that the programme has been reaching people who are at risk of social isolation and has been successful in providing a range of activities for people to engage in. Our learning from Phase 1 also identified a gap in relation to how the programme identifies and supports individuals who are already isolated, particularly as a result of a significant life change, which research identifies as a key contributing factor to social isolation. As we move to a revised programme model and the second phase of commissioning for Connect Hackney, we want to address the gap identified in Phase 1, by commissioning a person-centred connecting and signposting service to enable older people to increase their social contact with others, with the aim of improving their wellbeing by reducing isolation and loneliness
The value of this tender is up to £350k, between May 2018 – March 2021 and the full specification for this service can be found between pages 15-18 of Part A.
